Most of us have taken a selfie at one time or another, be it a photo of ourselves in a beautiful place, during a performance by our favourite band, or on a memorable night out with friends. But today, more and more people are putting their lives at risk in an attempt to get the most shocking pictures to share on social media. In several cases, this action has had disastrous consequences.
Take, for example, the Spaniard who was killed by a bull while he was taking a selfie during the annual bull run in a village near his hometown, or the Singaporean tourist who died when he fell from cliffs on the coast of Bali. Such tragedies have led to the death toll from selfie-related incidents reaching double figures for the first time in 2015, overtaking the number of victims of shark attacks.
Despite the risks, social media is full of pictures featuring near misses that could have been fatal under other circumstances. Under the caption 'Most dangerous selfie ever', a woman posing at a stadium can be seen narrowly avoiding being hit in the head by a baseball approaching her. Yet the photo has received thousands of "likes", and the comments below it suggest that this behavior is something to be admired.
In response to the increasing threat posed by the selfies, the authorities have started to take action. National parks, such as the Waterton Canyon in Denver, Colorado, have closed their gates to visitors approaching the bears for photos. The Russian Interior Ministry has launched a public education campaign advising selfie-takers not to balance on dangerous surfaces or pose with their pets. But if instructions like this are really necessary, then perhaps it is about time we asked ourselves which is more important, a 'like' or a life?
Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a cause of selfie-related accidents?

Present-day climate change includes both global warming, the steady rise in Earth's average temperature and its broader effects on the planet's climate. [I] In a wider sense, climate change also includes long-term changes in Earth's climate in the past. [II] The current increase in global temperatures is mainly caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution. [III] Using fossil fuels, cutting down forests, and certain farming and industrial activities release greenhouse gases. [IV]
Climate change has an increasingly large impact on the environment. Deserts are growing, heat waves and wildfires are happening more often. The faster warming in the Arctic has caused frozen ground to thaw, glaciers to shrink, and sea ice to disappear. Warmer temperatures are also making storms, droughts, and other extreme weather events stronger. Rapid changes in mountains, coral reefs, and the Arctic are forcing many animals and plants to move or even disappear. Even if we succeed in reducing future warming, some effects will last for hundreds of years. These include rising ocean temperatures, increasing ocean acidity, and higher sea levels.
Climate change is a serious threat to people. It can lead to more floods, extreme heat, shortages of food and water, more diseases, and financial losses. It can also cause people to move to new places and even lead to conflicts. The World Health Organization considers climate change one of the biggest dangers to human health in the 21st century. If no action is taken to slow warming, both societies and ecosystems will face much bigger risks.
Climate change can be mitigated by cutting down the amount of greenhouse gases released into the air and by increasing the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. To keep global warming below 1.5 °C, the world must reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, or by 2070 to keep warming under 2 °C. This requires major and widespread changes in energy use, land use, cities, transportation, buildings, and industries.
Which paragraph does the following sentence best fit?
These gases trap some of the heat that the Earth gives off after absorbing sunlight, making the lower atmosphere warmer.
The phrase “caused frozen ground to thaw” in paragraph 2 could be best replaced by ____________.
The word “These” in paragraph 2 refers to ____________.
